AMBASSADOR GLASS IS MORE! Manuel Fadat (FR)

Manuel Fadat is based in the Cevennes region of southern France, where he lives and works for part of the time. A cultural engineer and independent curator, he also writes, conducts research and teaches art history. After studying art history and museology, he specialized in the field of mutations in glass art, and the use of glass in modern and contemporary art. Passionate about the creative process, he is also concerned with the political and social dimensions of modern and contemporary art. Politically and socially aware, for many years he has sought to contribute to the development of glass art through articles, critical analysis, lectures and exhibitions. He has worked for example with La revue de la céramique et du verre, This Side Up!, Fjoezzz, Neues Glass, the European centre for research and training in glass arts CERFAV Vannes-le-Chatel (France) and has written extensively for exhibition catalogues. His approach is open-minded, interdisciplinary, trans-generational and complex. For the past three years, he has been working regularly with the Glass Museum and Art Centre in Carmaux; in collaboration with its director, Laurent Subra, his brief has been to redefine the museum’s scientific and cultural mission and to set up exhibitions. They are currently preparing an exhibition on the theme of utopia in contemporary glass art.

In parallel to these activities, Fadat created the art review Los Flamencos No Comen in collaboration with his wife Maeve Harrison and the artist Jean-François Desserre. As an art historian, Fadat conducts and publishes numerous interviews with artists (such as Paul Ardenne, Stephen Wright, Alain Badiou, Claire Fontaine, François Daireaux, Annie Abrahams, Art-Act, Mounir Fatmi, Alfredo Jaar, Alain Declercq, Aline Caillet, Thomas Hirshhorn, Kendell Geers, K. Joreige and Joana Hadjitomas, etc.). He also publishes texts on art, organizes exhibitions of contemporary art, participates in collective art projects, and works for OUDEIS, a unique analytical project specializing in the field of digital, media and electronic arts (www.oudeis.fr).
Whilst Fadat wishes his life to continue in this same direction, he also secretly wants to become a beekeeper.
