(Note: separate Conditions of Entry will be issued for the newly established Architectural Project Award)
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
The theme for The MAGE 2013 is “Arrested Liquidity”.
1. Welcome: the Arts Council of Mansfield (ACM) Inc. welcomes entries for the Mansfield Art Glass Exposition (MAGE) 2013 from glass artists across Australia. In conducting this event, ACM aims to [i] provide opportunities for studio and architectural glass artists across Australia to compete for significant prizes and/or awards and sell their work and [ii] to exhibit high standard contemporary art glass that will enrich cultural life in Mansfield and attract appreciative visitors.
2. Prizes and Awards: professional glass artists are invited to enter one or both major non-acquisitive prizes: [1] The MAGE Architectural Glass Prize - $2,000 and [2] The MAGE Studio Glass Prize - $2,000. Eligible artists who wish to enter will also have their works considered for a non-acquisitive sponsored award [a] The Kirra Galleries Emerging Artist Award - $750 cash plus the opportunity to exhibit at Kirra Galleries, Federation Square, Melbourne or [b] The Axess Glass New Artist Award – a voucher for glass/materials to the value of $750.
3. Number of entries: Each artist may enter 3 works in each prize.
4. Size of works: Sizes are not limited but ACM recommends that, in the interests of preserving the security of each piece, architectural glass works do not exceed (including frame) 2600mm in height and 1000mm in width. Architectural works larger than these dimensions must be totally self-supporting. Studio glass works must be stable and self-supporting or capable of being displayed on a plinth the top surface of which measures 450mm2.
5. Images of entered works: entrants are asked to provide with their entry form 3 high quality digital images of each work entered – jpeg format, 1 MB for judging and TIF format, minimum 300 dpi at A4 size (no compression) for printing. Images may not be manipulated in any way. Finalists will be selected from these images.
6. Artist’s statement: judges, people’s choice voters and potential purchasers appreciate brief artists’ statements about each work entered. Statements should not exceed 60 words in length.
7. Entry form: please complete and sign The MAGE 2013 Entry Form/s and return as soon as possible with payment details, digital images and a statement about each work. Email entries to Gilli Bruce at gillimbruce1@bigpond.com or sent by post to The Convenor-MAGE 2013, ACM, P O Box 34, Mansfield, Vic 3724 by the deadline.
8. Entry deadline: The deadline for all entires is 5 pm Friday 20 September, 2013. We regret we cannot accept entries after the deadline.
9. Entry fees: payment of a non-refundable entry fee of AU$40 is required per entry. However, ACM is able to offer an EARLY BIRD entry fee of $30 (25% reduction)for entries received by 31st August 2013.
10. Advice to artists: Entrants will be advised by email of the receipt of their entry and payment. 11. Selection of works: finalist works will be chosen from amongst digital images provided by artists via a blind
selection process by an expert panel (eventual prize and award winners will be chosen by judges in Mansfield).
12. Reproduction of artwork: completion and signing of The MAGE 2013 Entry Form will be taken to indicate that an artist agrees to allow images of their work to be used without fee on the ACM website and for MAGE 2013 media, advertising or publicity purposes.
13. Display of works: all works must be ready to hang or display. The Convenor is unable to accept responsibility for displaying works requiring complex and potentially insecure adjustments. Architectural glass pieces requiring suspension should have large strong eyehooks securely attached on either side near the top of the work. Studio glass pieces should be stable on an identifiable base.
14. Provenance: entries must be the original work of the artist, completed within the previous two (2) years and never exhibited in the Mansfield region. All work must be signed and dated with a temporary label attached securely to the underside of the work clearly showing the name of the artist, the title, medium and price.
15. Shipping arrangements: Works selected as finalists in either the Architectural Glass Prize or Studio Glass Prize competition should be delivered, mailed or couriered to Axess Glass Products, 12 Charnfield Court, Thomastown 3740 by 5pm Friday 18th October. Axess Glass will bring them to Mansfield FREE OF CHARGE.
Note: NO entries may be sent direct to Mansfield although, by arrangement with the Convenor on 0429 195 283, artists may deliver finalist works personally to Mansfield if they wish (and return after the exposition to collect them).
16. Unsold works: the unsold works of Victorian artists may be picked up from Access Glass after Monday 11th November (confirm with Sue Whitehouse on [03] 9463 0600). The works of interstate artists will be shipped FREE OF CHARGE to an Axess Glass distributorship in their capital city for collection before mid-December, 2013.
17. Uncollected works: Works uncollected after 3 weeks (ie. by Tuesday 3rd December from Mansfield, Axess Glass or their distributorships) may be subject to handling and storage charges or, following reasonable efforts to contact the artist, put up for sale or discarded.
18. Packing: all finalist works must be packed securely in a manner that can be replicated using materials that can be reused to return work if unsold. Shaped foam inside wooden/MDF boxes are greatly to be preferred (see Glass Packing Guide for the Ranamok Prize – www.ranamok.com/entering.html#Packing). The Convenor is unable to accept responsibility for returning works safely where packaging has to be destroyed to unpack the work.
19. Damage or loss: the ACM, Axess Glass Products Australia, venues or exhibition spaces will take due care of glass works but will not be responsible for damage to or the loss or breakage of any work while in transit or on exhibition. It is strongly recommended that artists insure their own work.
20. Public Liability Insurance: ACM and the exhibition venue will provide public liability insurance cover for finalists and any featured artists.
21. Sales: all works entered in competitions should be available for sale.
22. GST: The Australian Taxation Office advises that [i] artists who are not registered for GST cannot charge GST (therefore they do not need to increase their prices to cover GST) whereas [ii] artists who are registered for GST will have to consider GST when pricing their works for sale. ACM is not registered for GST nor is it required to be registered for GST.
23. Prices: the price/s indicated on entry forms should be in Australian dollars inclusive of GST - where it applies. There is no limit on the price charged for any work entered or displayed as part of the MAGE 2013. However, if artists are interested in selling their work, ACM advises that pieces priced up to and around $2,500 are more likely to sell in an as yet undeveloped regional market.
24. Commission: commission will be charged on works sold at the rate of 20% of the price indicated by the artist. 25. Judges decisions: the MAGE 2013 selection panel and judge’s decisions shall be final and binding. No
correspondence will be entered into regarding their decisions.
26. The Kirra Galleries Emerging Artist Award was established to encourage glass artists to continue with their professional glass art careers. It is made up of a cash payment of $750 and the opportunity to mount a mini- exhibition at Kirra Galleries in Federation Square, Melbourne. The Kirra Award will be offered to a professional artist who is not well known to collectors or galleries and whose entry, in the view of the judges, is original, well- designed, technically proficient, realistically priced and made in Australia. Artists wishing to be considered must be committed to pursuing a career as a glass artist, be commercially viable and have a good body of work with artistic merit.
27. The Axess Glass New Artist Award was established to encourage glass artists who are relatively new to the professional art glass field. The Award consists of a voucher for the purchase of glass to the value of $750.
28. ‘Architectural’ glass art means a contemporary glass work produced by any technique/type of glass (eg. leadlight, stained glass, kiln formed or laminated) in a flat or largely 2–dimensional form such as a panel or window which could be used in a building.

34. Public Choice Award: any public or ‘people’s choice’ judging conducted by ACM will be by free public ballot. 35. Assigning prizes or awards: prizes or awards may not be assigned if there are insufficient entries in any
competition or the judges consider the standard of work entered is inadequate.
36. Prize monies: Prize monies will be inclusive of any GST and no commission will be charged on them.
37. Payment of prizes: unless they are in attendance at the award announcement event, winners of a prize or award will be advised by telephone or email. Cheques and vouchers will be forwarded to artists at the address provided on their entry forms within 2 weeks of the exhibition closing.
