MARIKEN DUMON
BY DESIGN FOR DESIGN
Initiator and curator Marc Godts

BY DESIGN FOR DESIGN (BDFD) is a Research Training Session (RTS) with radical focus on design, designing and creation. I initiated BDFD to incite designers taking up research to act as designers and practitioners within that research too. BDFD is a designed moment in a designed environment, set in spaces exposed to passers-by and open for public. It is a showcase, a show time, a crash test, an exposure, an all in one.
Participants come from different walks of life. They practice and teach in one or more of the arts including stage arts, literature, music, fashion, design, architecture and more or in one or more of the sciences.
During BDFD they exhibit and crash test a designed prefiguring of possible research outputs - made tangible by means of artifacts - and together reverse engineer them into designs of research potentially leading up to such output.
BDFD is a meeting between academic, professional and cultural worlds.
