The owners of Condor House in Portland, Oregon, are collectors of contemporary glass and had long appreciated MADE’s designs in wood.

They asked MADE's founder, Bo Hagood, to work with the designers and fabricators at Bullseye Studio to both provide context for their glass collection and marry the seemingly disparate materials. From designing integrated glass pulls for the Oregon white oak kitchen cabinet doors, to pairing a massive Oregon maple slab with glass for an award-winning dining table, as well as a slab of Oregon maple with glass for the front entry door, the teams explored a range of connections, eventually involving Brian Creany of Flux Design to provide steel elements for the latter two projects.

The entry door is an intricate union of all three of the collaborators' primary materials. A broad expanse of glass at the hinge side of the door was cast by Bullseye Studio to match the live edge of a slab of maple prepared and refined by MADE. The wood "half" contains the handle and locking hardware. The top and bottom rail, and the hinge itself, are all cold rolled steel, machined and finished by Flux Design. Concealed in the wall is more of Flux's handiwork: the ample reinforcement necessary to support the over 600 pounds of door being hung on five very burly hinges.
