INTERNATIONAL GLASS ARTISANS GATHER FOR CONFERENCE AND JURIED EXHIBIT IN CHICAGO

The American Glass Guild will hold its 11th Annual Conference in partnership with the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts at the University of Chicago July 8-11th, 2016.  The public is invited to a Keynote Presentation by glass artist and designer Kenneth von Roenn on Saturday, July 9th at 5:30 pm in the Performance Hall, a Live Auction of Stained Glass Art at 8:00 pm in the Performance Penthouse, and to view the juried exhibition American Glass Now:2016 in the Gidwitz Lobby, on view from June 17th through July 11th .

The American Glass Guild (www.americanglassguild.org) is a non-profit organization of designers, artisans, historians and conservators working in the stained and decorative glass profession.  Its mission is to encourage spirited debate, initiate fact-based research, and work to build an environment within the field that both cultivates novices and facilitates experienced artists and craftspeople to attain a higher level of expertise. 
 

Keynote speaker von Roenn’s work in contemporary architectural glass has been published in numerous books and in every major architecture magazine including a feature article in “Architecture” magazine.

His company, the Kaiser/vonRoenn Studio Group (www.kvrstudio.com) is the leading architectural glass designer in America, with over 40 years of industry experience, and has received numerous design awards.

The American Glass Now:2016 (www.americanglassguild.org/american-glass-now) show is a juried collection of contemporary works in stained and decorative glass by members of the American Glass Guild.  Jurors for this year’s exhibit were Judith Schaechter, Lindsy Parrott and Rolf Achilles.  Artists include Kathy Barnard, Joseph Cavalieri, David Fode, Marie Foucault, Nancy Gong, Mary Clerkin Higgins, Kathy Jordan, Barbara Krueger, J. Kenneth Leap, Ellen Mandelbaum, Sean Merchant, Nancy Nicholson, Richard Prigg, Patrice Schelkun, Emily Selvin, Maria Sheets, Amy Valuck and Sasha Zhitneva.

This exhibit will travel next to the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., where it will be on display from July 17th to September 28th 2016.
 
The American Glass Guild supports the development of students and professionals in the stained and decorative glass community. Its annual Auction is the sole source of funding for the James C. Whitney Scholarship Fund (www.americanglassguild.org/the-james-c-whitney-memorial-scholarship), which awards monies to help defray the cost of educational pursuits for deserving applicants.
