INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM SCIENCE IN THE MAKING, ART IN THE MAKING

15/10/2015-17/10/2015

In conjunction with its exhibition Eppur si muove – Art and technology, a shared sphere, Mudam Luxembourg hosts an international symposium focusing on the multiple links that exist between art and science. With an interdisciplinary approach, these two days of reflection and exchange will bring together very high level speakers : artists, researchers, writers, historians, philosophers and others.

Whether they tackle questions related to the scientific field, they take inspiration from the history of science or they develop projects in collaboration with laboratories, artists have triggered a major turn in the relationship between art and science over the last few decades. Out of this intense dialogue between two distinct disciplines have emerged a great number of common grounds, such as the questions of invention and innovation, research, crafting and tools, new materialities, scales of thinking or the notion of authorship.

Presided over by Patricia Falguières, professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris, the symposium will tackle these topical questions from the point of view of the “making” in art and science. Four thematic half-days will each compare different points of view, theoretical or practical, historic or prospective.
