STUDIO DRIFT ENLIGHTENED THE AMSTERDAM SKY WITH A PERFORMANCE OF 300 INTEL DRONED

Studio Drift successfully rehearsed earlier this week its flying sculpture Franchise Freedom. 300 Intel® Shooting Star ™ -drones lit up the sky of Amsterdam. The performance will be on view for everyone to see on 10, 11 and 12 August between 10 & 11PM around the river IJ in Amsterdam. Powered by Intel drone light shows and made possible by BMW, the City of Amsterdam, RAI, Stichting NDSM Werf and Rabobank, this unique experience is linked to the exhibition STUDIO DRIFT: CODED NATURE at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, which runs until the 26th of August, and has been well attended and highly rated by visitors.

With Franchise Freedom, Studio Drift wants to show how rules establish themselves automatically in order to maintain a community. The artwork visualizes this illusion of freedom. Franchise Freedom is a 3 dimensional moving flying sculpture and because it is 3D each spot around the river IJ has a different view.

About Studio Drift and Franchise Freedom

Studio Drift is known for their impressive installations and sculptures that explore the relationship between nature, technology and mankind. Studio Drift is a FuturePace artist, a cultural partnership between Futurecity and Pace that combines the gallery and curatorial expertise of Pace Gallery with the cultural placemaking experience of Futurecity . The partnership aims to create a ‘gallery without walls’, providing imaginative, site-specific contemporary art, embedded into infrastructure, architecture and urban landscapes

Franchise Freedom, which is being carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Amsterdam and supported by the Stedelijk Museum, complements Studio Drift's successful exhibition CODED NATURE, allowing the public to witness how technology and nature can be merged. The artwork poetically explains the tension between individual freedom and the safety of the group, where the swarm is synonymous with our society.
