THE VENICE GLASS WEEK 2018

9/9/2018-16/9/2018
Great interest in the international festival dedicated to the art of glass, scheduled from 9th to 16th September 2018: deadline for applications for the second edition extended until 30th April

For anyone who has not yet done so, there is still time until 30th April 2018 to apply to participate in The Venice Glass Week, following the instructions specified on the festival website: www.theveniceglassweek.com/tvgw/iscrizioni-2018/. In 2017 the first edition of the festival dedicated to the art of glass attracted over 75,000 visitors in the lagoon city, and in light of the enthusiastic response to the announcement of the second edition, especially from international audiences, the Promotional Committee has decided to extend the deadline for applications.

Applications for The Venice Glass Week are welcomed from any Italian or international applicant wishing to propose an initiative related to artistic glass.  Proposed initiatives can include exhibitions and installations, as well as conferences, performances, workshops, themed dinners, guided tours, children's activities or any other event related to the art of glassmaking.  It is free to participate in the festival, and there is no application fee.

The most important development of the 2018 edition is the presence of a curatorial committee: this year, all applications will be evaluated and selected by a team of experts in the glass sector, at an international level, including curators, historians, critics and scholars.

The curatorial committee for the 2018 edition is headed by historian of Venetian glass Rosa Barovier Mentasti and consists of critics and curators Chiara Bertola and Jean Blanchaert, director of the German magazine Neues Glas Uta Klotz, and chemist, university teacher and expert in the composition of glass materials Marco Verità.

The festival has been defined by the newspaper La Stampa as “a unique occasion to learn all there is to learn about the art of glass” (Rocco Moliterni, 16th September 2017) and by Financial Times as a means to prevent the decline of “this arcane, enchanting craft” (Rachel Spence, 23rd September 2017).  The first international festival dedicated to artistic glass, with a particular focus on that of Murano, is conceived and promoted by Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti and Consorzio Promovetro Murano together with the Town Council of Venice.

Information about how to apply to take part in the second edition of The Venice Glass Week is available on the festival website: www.theveniceglassweek.com, and social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube.
