The Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon continues to inspire awe from around the globe and the world’s highest commercial bungy jump adds to the litany of activities throughout the canyon and surrounding areas. Visitors can challenge their fears at a one of the world’s premier adventure sports destinations.
The bungee jumping platform for this challenge is located on the world-famous Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, designed by Architect Haim Dotan. The vertical height of the platform is 260 meters from the bottom of the valley. Six jumpers, ages 19 to 44, participated in the challenge. Featured were Australian Beau Retallick, who holds the Guinness world record for “Most bungee jumps in 24 hours outdoors” (158 times) and for “Highest bungee jump with hands” (59.33M), Ollie Headon from the United Kingdom, who has jumped more than 200 times at more than 20 different bungee sites around the world, and Stephanie Shields from the United Kingdom, the only female bungee coach in Asia. From the 260-meter-high bungee platform on this glass bridge, the jumpers were full of surprises, Beau even jumping on a bicycle.
“Amazing! Such a smooth jump, it’s awesome! I want to jump again!” said Stephanie Shields, the first woman to jump from the bungee platform on the glass bridge, “This is the highest commercial bungee platform in the world…the scenery is great and very exciting!”
Chen Zhidong, chairman of the Grand Canyon of Zhangjiajie, said that the bungee platform on the glass bridge in the Grand Canyon of Zhangjiajie is unique in the world. After the challenge event, the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge Bungee platform will become a commercial bungee jumping site operation, which after completion will exceed the current Guinness world record held by the Macau Tower with a height of 233 meters. Installation will be completed and various safety tests will be performed at the end of May.
The bungee site is operated by Zhangjiajie Retallick Outdoor Sports Co.,Ltd. Its owner, Beau Retallick, founded BungyJapan, with six bungee jumping sites in Japan, it is one of the world's largest bungee jumping companies with international staff trained to the highest international standards and has been operating safely for over ten years. The Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge Bungee will be operated by the BungyChina team.
